Summary: "This volume is a study of the life and labors of Rizal. It places Rizal in the context of history among his contemporaries, both heroes and villains. By placing Rizal in the historical context it largely explains the why's of his life. Also answering the why's of Rizal; is a philosophical inquiry which explains his acts. A third approach of a sociological nature, places Rizal in the society of his century which explains the "how" questions on his life. The teaching of the course involves a new approach. It will be more student-centered approach rather that a teacher-centered one. Students will be asked to do readings and research. It maybe observed that there will be less emphasis on biography but more emphasis in explaining context concepts. Instead of bombarding students with information and data for memorization concepts will have to be developed by the students themselves and the teacher will merely become a facilitator. This approach hopes to promote a better understanding of the man man, his labors, his contemporaries and his generation and what and how it would apply to today's situations. It is hoped that this book satisfies the new approach of education which outcomes based which is the goal of the K to 12 program. While it can be said that the program is intended for basic education, college education is also tailored in for the students to do the same approach in college. They will learn to think and analyze independently and critically instead of being just fed by information for the purpose of memorization. By allowing students to think in this manner, they may develop their own conclusions and perspective on history. It is not by indoctrinating them to admire Rizal or other heroes but to let them think of the life, and achievements of these people are worth emulating." --From Foreworfd
