Includes bibliography (pages 129-133) and index.
"Science, Technology, and Society deals with the interaction between science, technology, and the social, cultural, political, and economic contexts. It discusses the relationship between the human quest to understand the natural world and how this understanding has fashioned society and its development. The book also engages students to confront the realities brought about by science and technology in society. It builds upon the idea that science is linked to society through technology.
The chapters of the book are grouped into three units. The first unit highlights significant technological developments throughout history that shaped human civilizations. The second engages the students in reflective and discursive thinking on the role of science and technology in the pursuit of the good life. The last unit deals with contemporary issues and scientific realities that we must all deal with as part of a well-functioning society. Each chapter ends with exercises that will assess students' comprehension and attainment of learning outcomes. It is hoped that by the end of the course, students will understand the value of science and technology in their life and in their interactions with the world." --Provided by publisher
