"This book is the history of the Filipino people.
In Unit I is an analysis of the origin of the Philippine archipelago and the beginnings of our people. In this unit it will study the ancient Filipino civilization.
In Unit II, trace the creation of the Philippines as a nation. The Spanish colonialism resulted in the birth of Filipino nationalism that forged the Philippine revolution. The Philippines is the first country in Asia to undertake a revolution against a colonial power, to boldly proclaim independence and to estabhlai8sh a Republic.
Unit III, examines the4 Filipino experiences under the American half-century and the three-year Japanese occupation. In the aftermath of the Second World War, the Philippines became independent. With independence came the new challenge of asserting one's sovereignty and surmounting problems that beset a developing state.
Unit IV highlights the cooperative efforts of the government and the citizenry to attain a progressive and just society. How to achieve effective governance and economic development are the twin concerns of this unit." -- The Authors
