Bibliography : page 305.
"The book is an explorative examination of the outstanding magnum opuses from genres not usually included in a local textbook. These are novel and theater play. Thus, this book has novel study, which is The Tree by F.Sionil Jose, and theater play study, which is Pygmalion by Bernard Shaw. It also includes representative texts of genres such as essay, which is Play as Literature by Joyce Carol Oates, and those of genres usually found in regular textbooks. The choice of texts is also based on countries whose influence as much as possible has been ubiquitous in Philippine Literature and history. The book is organized into three units with themes developing out from each other. The first unit has three theme Life, and the novel The Tree captures the elements that signify it. The second unit focuses on the theme Death, and it is related by various literary texts, which include poetry and short story. The third unit is the theme Passion, and the play Pygmalion vividly reflects it." --Page v
