"Reading and Writing Skills, a Textbook Series in Exploring Literature and Grammar for Senior High School has been prepared to help the students and teacher achieve the objectives of the course for the Grade 11 level. Taken fro 80 minutes in one semester, this course deals with the continuation of the English Communication Arts skills learned in the previous grade levels ( K to Grade 10). Specifically, this textbook aims to develop the students' reading and writing skills as applied to a wide range of materials other than poetry, fiction and drama. To achieve the said objectives, the lessons have been prepared to develop the following content and performance standards. A. Content Standards 1. realize that information in a written text may be selected and organized to achieve a particular purpose; 2. understand the relationship of a written text and content in which it was developed and 3. understand the requirements of composing academic writing and professional correspondence. B. Performance Standards 1. critique a chosen sample of each pattern of development focusing on information selection, organization, and development; 2. write a 1000-word critique of a selected text on the basis of its claim/s, content, and properties as a written material; and 3. produce each type of academic writing and professional correspondece following the properties of well-written texts and process approach to writing." -- Author 3.
