Summary: "The book is basically divided into three important parts. The first part of the book discusses important concepts and tools in the study of politics. Chapter 1 deals with the concept of politics and other related concepts like power, conflict, and decision-making. Chapter 2 discusses Political Science as a discipline. It also includes the different sub-disciplines of political science and its relationship with other social sciences. The third chapter talks about the different political ideologies that serve as guide for individuals and groups. The concept and nature of the state is discussed in Chapter 4. The next chapter focuses on the concept and nature of government. Chapter 5 includes the different forms of government. Chapter 6 focuses on two important and intertwined concepts: political institutions and political culture. The chapters would like to establish the relationship between the two to further understand the situation of society. There are two important concepts and tools that must understood first before going into the discussion o n Philippine politics. The second part of the book discusses Philippine politics and government using historical analysis. Each chapter tackles the Philippine government and politics starting from the pre-colonial era, Spanish era, American era, Japanese era, Martial Law era, and the Fifth Republic . The purpose of this part is to allow us to see the development of Philippine politics and government in a wider perspective. This would allow us to understand our present condition by looking at the past. The last part of the book tackles contemporary Philippine politics and government. It has two chapters wherein Chapter 16 talks about the basic features of our government and politics. The last chapter (Chapter 17) discusses the importance of citizenship, political participation, and civil society in the democratic processes we have." -- Paul Micah S. Francisco, Virlyn J. Francisco.
