Summary: "Mathematics was regarded as the science of quantity, whether of magnitudes, as in geometry, or of numbers, as in arithmetic, or of the generalization of these two fields, as in algebra. Today, however, Mathematics has deepened its meaning by taking into account the science involving relations and drawing conclusions from scientific and logical solutions. As such, mathematical symbols and equations are used to provide theories of deduction and inference derived from postulates, theorems, and other mathematical concepts. GEAP bridges the gap for unlearned concepts through carefully selected and tested learning materials to meet the needs of every learner who desires to advance his mathematical ability. This manual is divided into six units, each of which contains selected topics that meet the requirements of gaining competencies desired for general education (high school equivalency). Unit I focus on the study of Elementary Algebra. Algebra is a branch of mathematics in which letters are used to represent basic arithmetic relations. Unit II attempts to broaden an understanding of Algebra by focusing on Advanced Algebra. Unit III focuses on the concept of Geometry. Geometry is a branch of mathematics that deals with the properties, measurement and relationships of points, lines, angles, surfaces and solids. In this unit, the building blocks of Geometry, The Number Line, Reasoning Power Parallelism, Triangles, Similarity, Quadrilaterals and Circles are given emphasis. Unit IV Introduces the learners to Analytic Geometry. In this unit, straight lines, curves, and geometric figures are represented by numerical and algebraic expressions using a set of axes and coordinates. Topics explores include the Distance Formula, Midpoint Formula, Circles and Equation of Circles, among others. Unit V focuses on Trigonometry with emphasis on Exponents and Logarithms, Trigonometric Functions, Radian and Degree Measures, Acute Triangle, Right Triangle, Pythagorean Theorem, Trigonometric Identities. Unit 6 explores Statistics or the branch of Mathematics that deals with the collection, organization, and analysis of numerical data. In here, an introduction on how data are interpreted is given primary attention together with decision making based on given statistical data. Practice exercises are provided in this manual to enhance Mathematical ability and assess the learning achieved by every user. Answers and explanations are seen in the index for verification and checking purposes. it is expected that GEAP will be of help to every student by facilitating their intellectual growth in the GEAP's specific subjects to the highest level." -- The Editor
